10/14/2014· Carbide is too fragile for handheld drills and not a good choice for any general purpose use. You want high speed steel bits. The M2 HS is the common and lower price grade and the M42 cobalt HS is the more expensive premium grade. Split point bits are best when new and still sharp. They will start a hole without skating around on a rounded surface.
